New Delhi: BJP leader and MP, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, has been nominated to the 21-member Parliamentary Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence. The committee is headed by Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, and consists of heavy weights like Farooq Abdullah and Sharad Pawar.
The opposition had tried to sideline her by accusing her of communalism. However, the 49-year-old Sadhvi braved all the controversies and won from the Bhopal seat by defeating Congress war horse, Digvijay Singh.
Sadhvi Pragya was implicated in many terror cases by the previous Congress government in a bid to create a false narrative of ‘Hindu terrorism’. Thakur said that she was tortured while in prison. She is a cancer patient and underwent surgery while still in jail.
She stood for the 2019 Lok Sabha election against Congress veteran leader, Digvijay Singh and won by a margin of 3 lakh votes. Her victory silenced her critics and she became a symbol of patriotism even under extreme pressure.
