New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today told the Supreme Court that as soon as the stay on the arrest of Karti Chidambaram is lifted he would be arrested in the INX Media money laundering case.

Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, said, “Karti Chidambaram is yet to be arrested in ED case, he did not apply for bail, he had filed a petition in High Court challenging few provisions of PMLA. There is a stay on his arrest and once it is lifted, he would be arrested. ”

The Solicitor General also said that Karti is not on bail in the corruption case investigated by the CBI. The ED made the statement during a hearing of Chidambaram’s plea challenging the Delhi High Court’s order to deny him bail.

The apex court reserved its judgment on the petition.

The INX Media involves the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to the company INX Media to the tune of Rs. 305 crore in 2007 when P. Chidambaram was Union Finance Minister.

The CBI had recently charged sheeted fourteen accused in the corruption case including P. Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram. In the charge sheet Karti is accused of influencing bureaucrats to extend favours to INX Media and for using false invoices as genuine documents to demand illegal gratification of Rs. 10 lakh from the company.
