New Delhi: The Income Tax (IT) Department has served a show cause notice against the Indian National Congress for failing to present documents related to black money worth Rs. 170 crore from a Hyderabad firm to the party.
IT officers had found in a raid that the infrastructure company based in Hyderabad sent the amount through hawala channels. The funds were found to be diverted from government projects through fake bills.
The money was given to the company by the government for projects that were aimed at uplifting the economically weaker sections of society. The company used fake bills to divert the money and channeled to the Congress party.
Senior Congress leaders who were summoned by the IT Department did not appear before the agency on 4 November as directed by it.
