Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis, lambasted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for insulting Veer Savarkar. Fadnavis said that Rahul Gandhi cannot suffer the torture in the prison that Savarkar had to face.

Fadnavis said, “Rahul Gandhi’s statement is shameful, maybe he does not know about Savarkar. He faced torture for 12 years in the cells of Andaman jail, Rahul Gandhi cannot do it for even 12 hours. ”

He added, “Just putting Gandhi in your name doesn’t make you Gandhi.”

The BJP leader also slammed the Shiv Sena, which is now an ally of Congress and NCP in Maharashtra.

Devendra Fadnavis said, “The kind of people Shiv Sena has to deal with to remain in power is very clear. Maharashtra and country will never tolerate the insult to Savarkar.”

He also took a dig at Shiv Sena by asking why have they gone soft now in their protest against Rahul Gandhi for insulting Savarkar. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had said during election campaign that those who insulted Savarkar should be beat publically.
