Giridih: Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the central government will surely safeguard the cultural, social and linguistic identity of people of the north-east.
“Culture, language, social identity, and political rights of our brothers and sisters from the northeast will remain intact. It is the responsibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. Now that we have brought the Citizenship Amendment Act, some are trying to incite violence in the Northeast,” he said at an election rally in Jharkhand.
However, Shah hinted that “some changes” could be made in the law’s provisions to address the concerns of the northeastern states.
Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured people of the northeast that there is nothing to worry for the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
“I want to assure my brothers and sisters of Assam that they have nothing to worry after the passing of #CAB. I want to assure them- no one can take away your rights, unique identity and beautiful culture. It will continue to flourish and grow,” Modi had tweeted.
