New Delhi: The Delhi Police said it will take strict action against those protesters who turned violent and pelted stones at the protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The police PRO M. S. Randhawa said, “The situation is under control now. I will tell the people of Delhi to not pay attention to rumours. Delhi Police is monitoring the situation and we have ample forces to control the situation. We will soon identify the anti-social elements and take stringent action against them.”
Randhawa said that the police was forced to lathi charge and use tear gas after the mob turned violent and started pelting stones. He added that the police suspect outsiders, who were not part of the Jamia Milia Islamia University, in the protests and assured strict action against them.
The DCP, Chinmay Biswal, said that the police has not taken any action against the students of the university but was targeting those anti-social elements who turned the protests violent. They had entered the Jamia campus and were targeting the police from behind the university walls.
The protesters against CAA today turned violent and set ablaze buses belonging to the Delhi Transport Corporation. The protesters also destroyed a fire tender sent to put out the fire and injured two firemen.
Police have taken control of the situation and detained protesters from outside the gate of Jamia Milia Islamia. Six policemen were injured in the incident.
