Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to ban the extremist organization, Popular Front of India (PFI), after it was found to instigate violence in the name of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The move by the UP government follows after Karnataka too is mulling getting PFI and SDPI banned in that state for violence in the anti-CAA protests.
The UP police had arrested three PFI members for the violence in Lucknow on 19 December during the protests against CAA and National Register of Citizens.
The police had arrested PFI State President Waseem Ahmad, Nadeem and Ashfaq. The PFI has been behind many communal violence in the country.
Karnataka too is planning to ban PFI and the SDPI for their role in instigating violence in Mangalore during protests against CAA.
