New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh’s birth anniversary said that he upheld the values of truth, justice and compassion.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also greeted nation on Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.
He tweeted, “Greetings to fellow countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti today. Throughout his life, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji stood up against injustice. His teachings transcend time and will remain relevant for all times.”

Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Sikh guru and also a spiritual master, poet and philosopher. His father Guru Teg Bahadur was beheaded for refusing to convert to Islam by Mughals, thereafter took over the leadership at the age of nine. It was Guru who gave the warrior community, Khalsa, a new surname, Singh.
