New Delhi: Around 15 Bangladeshi illegal immigrants with criminal records are found to be behind the violence in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Seemapuri in Delhi.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the 20 December violence, said that the arrested Bangladeshi illegal immigrants were living illegally in J. J. colonies on the outskirts of the city. Some of these persons were involved in burglary cases before.
The SIT will also investigate the source of funding for the protests. The investigation officers believe that a foreign source was involved in the funding of these violent protests. They have visited the Tihar jail to question the rioters arrested earlier.
SIT is also probing how a huge mob was mobilized for the protests. WhatsApp groups are being monitored which mobilized these crowds for the protests at Seemapuri.
