Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister in an interview to a German media, Deutsche Welle, said that he is willing to hold a referendum in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). He added that the people can decide whether they want to remain in Pakistan or be independent.
He also claimed that free and fair elections are taking place there and said that he will invite international observers to visit there. But the reality is that under the 1974 constitution of PoK, anyone contesting the elections must support Kashmir’s union with Pakistan.
PoK is undergoing massive unrest against the Pakistani occupation and the people there have rose against rigged elections in 2016. The people there are fed up of the brutal military establishment. Last year, Imran Khan was insulted at Muzaffarabad in PoK after the people shouted slogans against him to go back.
India has categorically said that PoK is part of India. The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, also said in Parliament that the region is part of India.
Recently, newly appointed Army Chief, General Manoj Mukund Naravane, said that once the order is given the Indian Army will take appropriate steps to reclaim PoK.
