Thiruvananthapuram: The Chief Secretary of Kerala, Tom Jose, has requested the people to give details and cooperate with the government officials and teachers who will come to each house to take the census. He added that the census has nothing to do with National Population Register and both are two different procedures.

The population census is taken in two steps. The Central government had first decided to take population census and to collect information for NPR. However, the Tom Jose clarified that the NPR procedures will not be done and enumerators will not come to households to collect information.

The first step of the population census will be done in the months of April and May. There would be 33 questions that include the name of the householder, the members of the family, the situation of the residence, kitchen, drinking water, toilet, house utensils, vehicles, etc.

The second step will begin in February 2021 and will continue to 5 March. In that step personal questions of the individuals will be collected for the population census.

Kerala government has informed the Central government body Registrar General and Census Commission that the state would cooperate with the population census.

The population census is conducted every ten years and is used for the developmental activities of the government. The economic, social and personal questions that will be asked in the census will help the Central government in formulating policies that will be beneficial to all.
