New Delhi: The National Statistics Office (NSO) in a report says that over 6.4 crore new subscribers joined EPF and ESI schemes between September 2017 and November 2019. In addition, 16 lakh new subscribers joined the National Pension Scheme during the same period.
The NSO published the statistics in its report ‘Payroll Reporting in India: An Employment Perspective -November, 2019.
The NSO which is under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, released the report about the employment outlook based on the administrative records which is available with selected government agencies.
The employment related statistics gives the information in the formal sector by determining the number of subscribers who have subscribed under three major schemes which are Employment Provident Fund (EPF), Employees State Insurance (ESI) and the National Pension Scheme (NPS).
The detailed report says that 3,03,05,347 new subscribers joined the EPF between September 2017 and November, 2019. The ESI scheme saw and addition of 3,37,26,225 new subscribers.
While the opposition says that employment has declined during the Modi government, the government official data shows a trend of increase in the number of those employed.
