New Delhi: As 1 February is fast approaching when the convicts of Nirbhaya case will be hanged to death, one of the convicts, Mukesh Kumar, has moved the Supreme Case to review the rejection of his mercy petition by the President of India.
His mercy petition was rejected by the President on 17 January.
Mukesh Kumar’s counsel said, A petitoin has been filed under Article 32 for judicial review of the manner of rejection of the mercy petition in terms of the judgement of Supreme Court in Shatrughan Chauhan case.”
Mukesh Kumar had gave the mercy petiton to the President after the apex court rejected his curative petition.
Pawan Gupta and Vinay Kumar Sharma, other convicts in the case, have not filed the curative petitions before the Supreme Court.
As the procedure involves all the convicts must be hanged at the same time, the delay in submitting the petitions might be a bid to delay the hanging. The date of hanging had once changed after pleas were submitted.
