Brussels: Some left leaning lawmakers of the European Union (EU) have moved a resolution in the EU Parliament against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which was passed by Indian Parliament with a majority. India has hit back against this and said that the EU should not take measures that questions the authority of the democratically elected government of India.
Indian officials also expressed hope that the EU would consult with India to get an accurate assessment of the facts before it is put for debate in the EU Parliament next week.
The resolution was moved by the leftist group in EU Parliament called the ‘European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) Group’. The resolution will be debated next Wednesday in EU Parliament and will be put on vote the next day.
