Guwahati: Assam Minister, Himanta Biswa, said today that the Popular Front of India (PFI) must be banned as they were behind the violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He said that documents have been recovered from PFI’s office which are written in coded language.
Investigation is being done to decipher the symbolic language in the documents.
Himanata Biswa said, “In Guwahati at least, Popular Front of India (PFI) has actively associated themselves with the anti-CAA movement in the city. We have seized certain documents from PFI’s office that use symbolic language, we are trying to decode it.”
Earlier, Cabinet Minister in Assam government, Parimal Suklabaidya, had expressed the government’s plan to ban PFI.
He said, We are hopeful that the PFI’s true face will be revealed during the investigation and once it is done the state government will write to the Centre about it. It is necessary to put a ban on such an organisation (PFI) in a democratic country.”
He added, Why does a democratic organization need a code language? What does the PFI want to achieve, why was it formed?”
President of the Assam unit of PFI was arrested in December for the violence during protests against CAA.
