New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, in a written reply in Lok Sabha to a question regarding Naxal violence said that incidents of Naxal violence have continuously gone down in the period 2017-19. To combat the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) menace in a holistic manner, the Government of India has formulated a National Policy and Action Plan, which envisages a multi-pronged approach comprising security, development and ensuring rights and entitlements of local communities etc.
Resolute implementation of National Policy and Action Plan has resulted in consistent decline in Left Wing Extremism violence and its geographical spread.
In the year 2017, a total number of 908 communist terror attacks were reported. But in 2018, it has reduced to 833. During last year, only 670 attacks were recorded. 188 people had lost lives in 908 incidents of terror attacks in 2017, and in 2019, the number has moved down to 150, the statement says.
