Jammu: In a major development after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission on Thursday announced that the region will hold panchayat elections from March 5 to March 20.
Pollling will be conducted in eight phases. The first phase of polling will take place on March 5, while the second on March 7. The third, fourth and fifth phase of polling will take place on March 9,12 and 14 respectively. The last three phases of polling will be held on March 16,18 and 20.
“Panchayat elections for vacant posts of every block will be held using ballot boxes. It will be conducted in eight phases,” Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Electoral Officer Shailendra Kumar said.
`Model Code of Conduct is being enforced and will be implemented in all the areas wherever election is being held. For Jammu division, it is four phases and for Kashmir division, it is eight phases.
