After the Uri Attack in 2016, which was one of the deadliest attack on soldiers ever happened, yet another attack on CRPF jawans took place on February 14, 2019 in Pulwama.

On this day, at around 3 pm, a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist rammed into the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy on Srinagar-Jammu national highway. The terrorist was a suicide-bomber carrying explosives in his vehicle.

India lost 40 CRPF personnel of the 76th Battalion and injured many others. A convoy of 78 vehicles were transporting more than 2,500 CRPF personnel from Jammu to Srinagar on NH 44. The attacker was identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, a 22-year old from Kakapora.

India blamed Pakistan for the attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had condemned the brutal attack and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families. Also the international community condemned the attack and assured India that it would support India in counter-terrorism efforts.

Within a short period of 12 days, on February 26, India retaliated when Air Force jets bombed the JeM camp in Balakot, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. India claimed that it attacked a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp and killed about 300-350 terrorists.

Indian soldiers’ valour and courage is always held high and every single soldier’s life is precious for the country. We salute our bravehearts who sacrifice their life for the nation.
