Itanagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday assured that the Government has no intention to scrap Article 371 from the Northeast. He reaffirmed that the Centre is committed to protecting the culture of the region.

Shah said that misinformation have been being spread post the abrogation of Article 370 that such a similar action will be executed in the Northeast.

Addressing a gathering to mark the 34th foundation day of Arunachal Pradesh, Shah said the Northeast was only geographically united with the rest of India before 2014 when Narendra Modi assumed the office of the prime minister.

“The real emotional integration of the region with the rest of the country happened only under the Modi government,” he said.

” 27 tribes and over 120 sub-tribes are a specialty of the region. I want to assure everyone in Arunachal that protecting the rights and cultural heritage of these tribes and sub-tribes is a responsibility of the Govt and we will continue to deliver the same,” Shah said.

Outlining the militancy and inter-state boundary disputes in the region, Shah said, ” When we come to seek your votes in 2024, the Northeast will have been free from problems like militancy and inter-state strife.”
