Mumbai: In a major setback for Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar said the new citizenship law, the proposed NRC and the NPR will not take away anybody’s citizenship and flagged “misinformation” on the issue.
Sharad Pawar had said on last December that Maharashtra should not implement CAA. In contrast to this, Ajit Pawar ruled out that there was no need bring a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Population Register (NPR) in the Assembly.
“The CAA, NRC and NPR will not take away anyone’s citizenship,” he said.
“It is unnecessary to pass a resolution against the CAA and the NPR in the Maharashtra Assembly,” Pawar said.
Last month, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi after which he said that there is nothing to fear about the CAA.
