New Delhi: The tactics used by the convicts in the Nirbhaya case to delay their execution has gone a step higher. Three of the convicts have now approached the International Court of Justice seeking a stay on their execution of their death warrants. A Delhi court has scheduled their hanging for 20 March at 5.30 am.
The three convicts who approached the ICJ are Akshay Sharma, Pawan Gupta, and Vinay Sharma.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court rejected Mukesh Singh’s plea to restore his legal remedies as his lawyer had misled him. The apex court said that his plea is ‘non-maintainable’.
As of now all the four convicts have used all their legal remedies available to them. The family members of the convicts have appealed for euthanasia and also requested the President to forgive them.
The convicts faced the death penalty for the rape and murder of a 23 year old woman in a moving bus in New Delhi in 2012. The brutality of the rape had led to a massive protest across the country.
