New Delhi: Former Supreme Court Chief Justice, Ranjan Gogoi, has been appointed to the Rajya Sabha by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. Gogoi had retired on 17 November last year.
Ranjan Gogoi began practicing law from 1978. He was appointed Judge of Gauhati in 2001. He was then transferred as the Chief Justice of Punjab-Haryana High Court in 2011.
Gogoi was appointed the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in October, 2018 after serving as a judge of the apex court since April, 2012. Gogoi was the first person from the North East India to ascend the seat of the Supreme Court Chief Justice.
