New Delhi: The justice has finally prevailed when all the four convicts of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case hanged today at 5.30 am in Tihar Jail.
The hanging was carried out as per schedule after all the legal remedies for the convicts exhausted.
A three judge Supreme Court bench rejected the final plea by the convicts’ lawyer AP Singh to stay their execution in a late-nigh hearing.
Akshay Thakur, 31, Pawan Gupta, 25, Vinay Sharma, 26, and Mukesh Singh, 32, spent the last few hours in isolation.
The four men refused to eat and were up all night, said officials. The entire jail was on lockdown through the night, and officials said, no other prisoner in Asia’s largest jail could sleep a wink.
