New Delhi: The Finance Ministry has taken a relief step for the contractual workers who are forced to remain indoors during the lockdown to check the spread of coronavirus.
The Ministry has announced that contractual workers will be paid during the lockdown period and that the employees will be marked as ‘on duty’. All non-essential services have been stopped due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s office tweeted, ” The @FinMinIndia ensures uninterrupted and smooth functioning of the Government Expenditure system during the containment period of COVID-19 by declaring Govt. Expenditure system to be an essential service, thereby ordering all offices connected with the payment functions of the Government to remain open and ensure that there are no financial delays. This measure will ensure that in these challenging times, the expenditure system functions quickly to cope with any emergent needs.”
