New Delhi: The Buddh International Circuit, the sports facility that hosted the Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2011, will be utilised to accomodate migrant workers who had started their journey to respective villages amid the lockdown.
The district administration has decided to set up makeshift structures to house the migrants. They will not be allowed in the core part of the FIR circuit, which includes rooms for sportspersons, coaches and staff, reported Times of India.
According to reports, District magistrate BN Singh invoked special powers under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and directed the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to make arrangements for the migrant workers at Jaypee Sports City.
The Yamuna Authority officials will be arranging food, mattresses, pillows and bedsheets for the migrant workers. “Water and electricity connections are available. Others things have been ordered. The arrangement would be done in makeshift structures. We are also erecting tin sheds to increase capacity,” said Navneet Goel, YEIDA’s Officer on Special Duty is quoted as saying by the Daily.
