New Delhi: New Delhi’s Nizamuddin has emerged as the coronavirus epicentre in India after thousands participated in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation. The Uttar Pradesh Police picked up eight Indonesians in Bijnor who had participated in the congregation.
They were staying in a mosque.
“The Indonesians have been home-quarantined. We have registered a case against five persons of the mosque,” ANI quoted Sanjay Singh, Superintendent of Police (Rural) as saying.
Meanwhile, after 24 people who attended the Markaz event in Nizamuddin were tested positive for coronavirus, Delhi Polic Commissioner SN Shrivastava on Tuesday said than an FIR has been registered against Tablighi Jamaat head Maulana Saad and others under the Epidemic Disease Act 1897.
It is believed that around 1,500-1,700 people had assembled at the Markaz building.
Violating lockdown conditions, the religious gathering was held at the Markaz building between March 13-15.
The Delhi Police has sought government an immediate action with regard to the persons including 157 foreign nationals associated with the event.
