New Delhi: India on the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi came together to express solidarity by lighting lamps, candles at 9 pm for 9 minutes today.
This was the second “collective display” to show unity in the fight against the virus.
President Ram Nath Kovind also was seen holding ignited lamps.
This first of a kind initiative shall always be remembered by Indians. As the clock struck 9 pm, lights went out in most houses and people gathered in balconies, flashing mobile lights while others lit candles and diyas.
There are more than 3,500 COVID-19 positive cases in the country, including at least 83 deaths linked to the virus.
The nation went under the “total lockdown” on March 25 in an attempt to break the chain of transmission of the virus. 1.2 million people have been infected globally and nearly 66,000 killed.
