New Delhi: Two members of a women’s student organisation, Pinjra Tod in Delhi, have been arrested by the North East District Police on Saturday for their link with anti-Citizenship Amendment Act sit-in protest.
The accused arrested are Natasha and Devangana, two women associated with Pinjra Tod and students of JNU. According to reports, a mob of women suddenly gathered during the anti-CAA protest at the Jaffrabad Metro Station following which the riots took place on February 23 and 24.
A senior officer said, “An FIR regarding the Jafrabad sit-in protest had been registered earlier. The women have been arrested under IPC sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).”
They will be interrogated by the Crime Branch SIT and Delhi Police Special Cell. They will be produced before the Court on Sunday.
Several students of the Delhi University as well as other higher educational institutions in Delhi are members of the Pinjra Tod Organisation.
