Nanded: In a shocking incident, dead body of a seer (sadhu) was found inside his ashram in Nanded on late Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Balbrahmachari Shivacharya and the police also found another body reportedly his disciple, Bhagwan Shinde.
The bodies of the seers were found near the bathroom inside their ashram.
The Maharashtra police suspects a case of robbery where the criminals have looted Rs 69,000, laptop and other valuables from the victim’s bedroom totalling around Rs 1.50 lakh, besides his car keys.
As per the latest development, the police has arrested an accused, Sainath Shingade, in connection with the case. However, he left behind a laptop and around Rs 65,000 in the car which he allegedly stole from the seers.
When Shivacharya tried to seize him, they strangled him and Shinde to death with a charging cable. The accused tried to escape the spot by hiding the bodies in a car trunk. The managed to get into seer’s car and fled but ended up crashing at the main gate of the ashram.
The noise alerted the inmates and saw the accused escaping on a motorcycle.
The initial investigation has revealed that the suspects were regular visitors to the mutt and used to have meals and stay at the mutt sometimes.
On the other hand, the seer was a well-known mahant of the district and was involved in the development work of the area for a long time. Hailing from Karnataka, he had come to Nanded a decade ago and set up the ashram which he ran along with a band of followers, as reported by Zee News.
This new incident comes more than a month after two seers and their driver were brutally thrashed to death by a mob in Palghar.
