First phase of Mission Vande Bharat brought 13,750 Indians back from 12 countries: Union Civil Aviation Minister

New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday said that in the first phase of Mission Vande Bharat 13,750 people were brought back from 12 countries.

He said that the mission has reached out to stranded and distressed Indians in different parts of the world.

“Mission Vande Bharat has reached out to stranded & distressed Indians in different parts of the world & is facilitating their return.In the 1st phase 13,750 people have returned from 12 countries including UK, US, Bangladesh, & countries of Middle East & SE Asia on 64 flights,” he tweeted.

In the second phase, about 58,750 Indians on as many as 311 flights till 17th June.

“Phase-2 of the mission, currently underway, will bring back nearly 58,750 Indians on as many as 311 flights from Middle East, CIS, Europe, East Europe, SE Asia, South Asia, East Asia, Africa, & UK, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, US & Canada till 17th June 2020,” he added.

India had set for the largest evacuation operation to repatriate Indians stranded abroad due to coronavirus-induced lockdown. The operation began on May 7 and its second phase started on May 16.
