New Delhi: Former Jawaharlal Nehru University student and activist Umar Khalid has been arrested by the special cell in connection with the riots that broke out in north-east Delhi. The special cell has reportedly found him as a conspirator in the riots that led to the arrest.
Umar Khalid was earlier charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in another case related to the riots. His mobile phone has been seized by the police, news agency PTI reported.
According to a charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police Crime Branch against suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, he had met Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi of ‘United Against Hate’ at the Shaheen Bagh a month before the violence and Umar had asked him to buckle up his shoes for something big/riots at the time of US President Donald Trump’s visit.
