New Delhi: Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh minister Sajjan Singh land in trouble after making a controversial statement about the marriage age for girls on Wednesday.
The former minister made the statement while responding to a question asked by the reporters about the statement made by CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan indicating that the marriage age for girls is likely to be increased from 18 to 21.
“According to doctors, a girl is ready for reproduction by the age of 15. Is Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan a doctor or a scientist? So, on what basis does girls’ marriage age should be raised from 18 to 21? What is the logic behind saying t hat girls’ marriage age should be increased from 21 to 18”, he said.
The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Monday had made a statement while speaking at ‘Nari Samman’ programme that girls need not get married as they turn 18. He also said that crimes against women have reduced by 15 per cent in state in the past nine months after he came into power.
