Pune [Maharashtra]: A day after the fire at the Manjari Plant of the Serum Institute of India, CEO Adar Poonawalla said that the fire will not impact the production of the Covid 19 vaccine. He said that the fire has caused severe financial damages but will not affect the production of Covishield.
“The supply of Covid 19 vaccine will not affected due to the fire. no actual vaccine was being made at that facility. we were lucky that the incident happened in a different building. The extent of the financial damage is more than Rs 1,000 crores”, said Adar Poonawalla in a press conference.
He further added that “the fire has no impact on the production of the Covishield vaccine and no damage has occured to the existing stock either”.
The fire that broke out at the under-installation building in Terminal 1 gate of the Serum Institute at around 2:45 yesterday had claimed the lives of five people.
