Pune [Maharashtra]: The Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said that the investigation to find the cause of the fire at the Serum Institute of India is underway. He said that until the investigation report comes in nothing can be said.
Speaking in a press conference Thackeray said that “An inquiry is being conducted. Until the investigation report comes in, we cannot come to any conclusions. News came that a fire broke out at the institute but fortunately, the site where the vaccine is being manufactured and stored has not been affected. I am informed by Adar and Cyrus that the Covid-19 vaccine is manufactured at a distance from the fire”. He said that the CEO of SII Adar Poonawalla has promised that the Covishield manufacturing will not affected.
He further added that the Serum Institute has taken the responsibility of the aggrieved families. They had announced a compensation of 25 lakhs to the families of the deceased.
A fire that broke out at the Manjari plant in Terminal 1 gate of the SII, had claimed the lives of five people and caused a loss of over 1,000 crore.
