Belagavi: In a close fight, BJP candidate Mangala Angadi, wife of Union Minister of State for Railways late Suresh Angadi, won the Belagavi Lok Sabha seat defeating Congress candidate Satish Jarkiholi after the counting of votes polled on April 17.
After the counting of votes began at 0800 hrs there was a neck to neck fight as Ms Angadi took early lead and maintained upto 35 rounds, however, Satish Jarkiholi bounced back and started taking lead upto 70 round of counting. The fight continued with Ms Angadi taking the lead and Mr Satish Jarkiholi overtaking her.
However, as there were only three rounds of counting left it was Ms Angadi who was declared elected by the Returning Officer.
Mr Suresh Angadi became a victim of the Coronavirus. He died last September in New Delhi.
