All India N R Congress party founder N Rangasamy was on Friday sworn-in as the chief minister of Puducherry.
Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Rangasamy at a function at Raj Nivas under strict COVID-19 protocols in place.
This is the fourth stint of the 70-year-old leader as the chief minister of the Union Territory.
The AINRC has contested the just-concluded elections for the Territorial Assembly in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) under the umbrella of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The AINRC secured 10 seats, the BJP bagged six seats while the AIADMK drew nil in the 30 member Assembly.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Union Minister and BJP leader Kishan Reddy called the Lt Governor and apprised her about the government formation.
The chief minister’s post will be held by the AINRC candidate while the deputy chief minister by the BJP MLA.
Also, three ministers will be from AINRC and as many from the BJP, Mr Reddy told media persons here after the meeting.
This is the first time the UT will have a deputy chief minister.
