Covid-19: Special train with Oxygen tankers arrives in Karnataka

The first Oxygen Express train with 6 tankers containing 120 MT of oxygen arrived at Whitefield, in the outskirts of Karnataka Capital on Tuesday.

In a tweet, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said “the Oxygen Express with 6 containers carrying 120 MT oxygen has reached Bengaluru. I thank PM Narendra Modiji for the continued support and Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and D V Sadananda Gowda and Pralhad Joshi for their efforts to strengthen our fight against the pandemic”.

The train, carrying 120 tonnes of liquid oxygen, reached Container Corporation India in Whitefield, Bengaluru on Tuesday. The first express train consists of six cryogenic containers, each containing 20 tonnes of liquid oxygen.

Based on the request of the state government, the Railways is running the Oxygen Express train. The distance between the original station and the city is about 1860 km. A green corridor has been built for the train.

To facilitate the movement of tankers, SWR had constructed a ramp at Whitefield. Doddaballapur to transport oxygen tankers in future.
