Contributions pour in for COVID relief, Actor Ajith contributes Rs 25 lakh

Chennai:  Popular Tamil film actor Ajith Kumar today contributed Rs 25 lakh towards COVID relief to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief fund.

An official release said following an appeal made by Chief Miniser M K Stalin seeking generous contributions from the public to tackle the COVID pandemic and to revive the State’s economy, the actor contributed Rs 25 lakh towards COVID relief. He has transferred the amount through RTGS to the CM’s relief fund.

Following CM Stalin’s appeal, corporates, philanthropists, businessmen, hospitals, actors and banks are donating to the CM’s Public Relief Fund and are also chipping in with medical equipment to help the government fight the pandemic.

Zoho Corporation donated Rs five crore, City Union Bank and GRT Group gave Rs one crore each, Sathyabama Institute and Panimalar Education Group donated Rs 50 lakh each and Akash Hospital contributed Rs 25 lakh.

The Government Medical College, Omandurar Government Estate, where a large number of COVID-19 patients are being treated, received 50 oxygen flow meters donated by Rajan Eye Care and Rotary Club of Madras, T.Nagar, under Project ‘O2’.

Meanwhile, renewing his appeal, CM Stalin called upon Tamils across the world to contribute to the CMPRF to fight COVID-19.

“At a time when there is a medical and financial crisis, you should come forward to associate yourselves with the task of protecting people,” he said in a video message.

He assured that the contributions would be used only for the purchase of beds, vaccines and other medicines.

“The details will be made public and the donations will be exempted from income tax,” he said.
