Twitter plays truant again, removes VP M Venkaiah Naidu blue tick

The running battle between Government of India and Twitter took a turns for the worse when the micro blogging platform, removed the ‘blue tick’ appearing on the personal Twitter handle of the Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu.

The blue tick was removed from Naidu’s personal account on Saturday morning, after which the matter started trending on social media. A number of users called it an absolute arrogance on the part of Twitter which embroiled in various controversies.

But a Twitter spokesperson clarified that Shri M Venkaiah Naidu’s personal Twitter handle was inactive for almost 10 months, since July 2020. The long inactivity of a verified handle results in the automatic removal of the blue tick as per Twitter’s policy.

Twitter has since confirmed that the blue tick has returned on the personal handle of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. A blue tick is given to a user’s account to show that this account is verified so that people can build trust about it.

It has been seen that there is competition among users to get blue tick on Twitter account and people have to wait a long time for it.

Twitter has run into a road block in Nigeria with the government there banning Twitter after it removed a tweet of President Muhammadu Buhari for violating the site’s rules.
