Uttar Pradesh crossed the significant landmark with over 50- lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered to those between the age groups of 18 and 44.
Thus UP becomes the first state to inoculate the maximum number of youth. The State under CM Yogi was the first in the country to start the free vaccination drive to inoculate people above 18 years of age.
Despite being the most populous state, UP is conducting aggressive vaccination of the 18+ category to counter the pandemic surge under the supervision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. More than 50.70 lakh doses have been given in this category under phase III vaccination against COVID-19, leaving other states far behind.
While addressing a high-level COVID review meeting on Thursday, the CM said, “Right now we are administering around 4 lakh doses every day, it should be increased to around 5 to 6 lakhs within the next two-three days. The target is to expand the daily dose capacity to 10-12 lakh by July. To meet the new target, intensify the number of vaccinators by giving training to the nursing students amongst others.” CM has announced to ramp up the vaccination drive by inoculating 10 lakh doses a day and cover at least 10 crore people in the next 3 months as soon as the ‘Mission June’ ends.
Daily Vaccination figures are at a record high since the start of ‘Mission June’. On June 9, around 3,91,449 doses of vaccine were administered in the State. Since the commencement of Mission June, UP has given over 33 lakh doses of vaccine in a period of 9 days only, which is encouraging.
According to the Department of Health, the cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the State exceeded 2.15 crores, taking the figures to 2,15,65,323. Of which, around 1,78,64,149 have given the first dose, while the remaining 37,01,174 have received both the doses of vaccine.
