The first session of the 15th legislative assembly was summoned to meet at 0930 hours on June 16 to elect the Speaker.
Legislative Assembly Secretary R Munisamy in a release on Saturday said that Lt.Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has fixed June 16 as the date for the first session of the 15th legislative assembly to meet to elect the Speaker.
The Assembly Secretary will accept the nominations for the Speaker’s election till 1200 hours on June 15.
It may be noted that though it was more than 65 days after the Assembly election was held on April 6, the Ministry in the Union Territory could not be formed due to alleged power struggle between the N R Congress and BJP which constitutes the NDA here.
After hectic discussions, now issues have been sorted out and the N R Congress had agreed to give the posts of Speaker and two Ministers to the BJP.
The BJP had already submitted the name of its Speaker candidate to Chief Minister N Rangaswamy who initiated action with the Lt Governor for the Speaker’s election.
It is learnt that Mr Embalom Selvam of the BJP will be elected as the Speaker.
It is expected that the full fledged ministry will be sworn-in on the evening of next Wednesday.
