New Delhi: India is on a significant move to step into the 5G era. The fifth generation telecom spectrum bidding begins today. 72 GHz of radio waves worth 4.3 lakh crore rupees will be auctioned today. Reliance, Jio Bharathi, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and the Adani Enterprises are participating in this.

The auction starts from 10 am and ends at 6pm. A total of 72,097.85 MHz (72 GHz) of spectrum is being auctioned with 20 years tenure. The auction is for spectrum in the lower frequency bands of 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900, 900, 80, 900, 80 and the middle frequency band of 3300 MHz and the higher band of 26 GHz.

The auction will be continued at least for the next 2 days and will be extended according to the need of radio waves and the techniques used in the auction. The centre has been expecting a profit of 70,000 to 1 lakh crore rupees. It is 10 times faster than 4G.  There are assumptions that the auction would turn out nice to both Reliance Jio and Airtel.
