Earlier, Lok Sabha had passed the quota bill for upper caste poor. 323 members supported the bill while three members were against the bill. Anna DMK member walked out of the house ahead of the voting. Congress and CPM voted in favour and Muslim League voted against.
A special ministerial meeting, called by the Prime Minister, decided to grant quota for the upper caste poor. The Central Government has decided to make constitutional amendment for the same.
The quota aims for those who come under eight lakh income per year. The quota will be beneficial in educational as well as employment sections.
