Quota bill for upper caste poor passed in LS; PM thanks the members for support

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked all the members who have supported the quota bill in parliament.

The Government is committed to the principle of ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’. ” We are resolutely committed to the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, told PM.

It is our endeavour to ensure that every poor person, irrespective of caste or creed gets to lead a life of dignity, and gets access to all possible opportunities.”Prime Minister tweeted.

I thank MPs from all the parties who supported The Constitution (One Hundred And Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha.

I also appreciate those MP colleagues who enriched today’s debate with their views.

The passage of The Constitution (One Hundred And Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha is a landmark moment in our nation’s history.

It sets into motion the process to achieve an effective measure that ensures justice for all sections of society.

Earlier, Lok Sabha had passed the quota bill for upper caste poor. 323 members supported the bill while three members were against the bill. Anna DMK member walked out of the house ahead of the voting. Congress and CPM voted in favour and Muslim League voted against.

A special ministerial meeting, called by the Prime Minister,decided to grant quota for the upper caste poor. The Central Government has decided to make constitutional amendment for the same.

The quota aims for those who come under eight lakh income per year. The quota will be beneficial in educational as well as employment sections.
