New Delhi: Recent insensitive statements by senior Congress leaders have hurt the sentiments of the armed forces and the public and question the honesty of Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s support to the government and security forces after Pulwama attack.
Today, Congress leader and former Member of Parliament, Noor Bano stunned the nation when she said that no one is to be blamed for the attack except the armed forces, home ministry, and the government.
She even speculated that BJP might “exploit this”. The former Member of Parliament was able to politicise the issue by this statement thus breaking the promise made by Congress President that the party would not politicise the attack and stand with the nation.
Noor Bano’s remarks come close on the heels of similar statements and actions made by Navjot Singh Sidhu and Congress Social Media Head Divya Spandana.
On Friday, Navjot Sidhu courted controversy when he asked, “can you blame the entire nation” for the terror attack. He also supported talks with Pakistan at a time when the whole of India is in a state of shock and wants the perpetrators punished. His statement seemed to be an attempt to dilute the involvement of Pakistan in the terror attack.
Last year, Navjot Sidhu came under criticism for attending the swearing-in ceremony of the Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
Yesterday, Congress Party’s Social Media Head Divya Spandana retweeted senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan’s Twitter message suggesting that Pulwama bomber became a terrorist because Indian troops had beaten him.
These statements and actions of senior and responsible Congress leaders will play into the hands of anti-India forces. The Congress leadership’s silence over these issues makes one wonder why the party cannot hold a united decision even when it comes to matters of national security.
