Gandhinagar: Gujarat high court today rejected the plea by Rahul Gandhi to stay his conviction in the defamation case. In regard to defaming the Modi community, Rahul Gandhi was convicted and as a result his MP position was revoked.
In opposition to this he had applied for interim stay against his conviction. The Gujarat high court postponed the judgement to a date after the summer holidays said Justice Hemant Prachak.
As his interim stay has been rejected Rahul Gandhi is still deemed ineligible. Earlier for similar reasons, Rahul Gandhi had approached the Surat sessions court which had also rejected it. He had asked the sessions court to stay the magistrate court’s decision.
But at the same time the bail for the imprisonment regarding the defamation case still goes on. The stay will be considered again by the high court on 20th of May.
