Kozhikode: After facing an avalanche of threats, calls for ban and lies, the movie The Kerala Story will be released in theaters tomorrow. The movie is reaching the theaters after making the required cuts as suggested by the Census Board. The movie now has a running time of two hours and nineteen minutes. The Census Board has awarded an A certificate to the movie.
The Census Board had sought evidence for the references in the movie about ISIS, Aurangzeb and Alamgir. It has also collected evidence pertaining to the States mentioned in the film. The subtitle has been modified and also the subtitle to a Malayalam song in the movie is added.
Earlier, the Supreme Court refused to accept the plea submitted by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, which called for a ban on the release and screening of the movie. Instead, the SC asked the petitioner to approach the High Court of Kerala and suggested that if the case is given it would be considered on that day itself.
The producer of the movie Vipul Amrutlal Shah did not accept the demand that the movie show a disclaimer stating that it is a work of fiction.
The lawyer appearing for the petitioner, Vrinda Grover, had argued that the movie must have a special warning. In another petition filed by Qurban Ali, he demanded that the movie must be completely banned. His petition reached the bench head by Justice KM Joseph. There is also a petition pending at the Madras High Court against the movie.
