Chennai: After a successful poll alliance with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, the BJP sealed a pre-poll alliance with the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. The alliance will face the Lok Sabha election and also the by-poll elections to 21 Assembly constituencies.
The decision came after BJP leader and Central Minister Piyush Goyal met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in Chennai.
Piyush Goyal, the BJP leader in charge of Tamil Nadu also met Vijaykanth in the afternoon. The NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu which will face the coming Lok Sabha elections consists of BJP, AIADMK, PMK and also Vijaykanth’s DMDK.
In accordance with the pre-poll agreement, the BJP and AIADMK will face the Lok Sabha election together in both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Panneer Selvam said that the BJP will contest in 5 Lok Sabha seats.
While the Lok Sabha elections will be fought under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state by poll elections will be fought under the leadership of Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam.
BJP’s swift moves, in allying with AIADMK come close on the heels of a grand alliance made with Shiv Sena yesterday in Maharashtra, has clearly rejuvenated the NDA camp.
