Bengaluru: It is a sad tale for Jagadish Shettar, who had left BJP last month to join hands with the Congress. The former Chief Minister had to concede defeat to BJP’s Mahesh Tenginakai from the Hubli-Dharwad Central in the Karnataka assembly election.
Jagadish Shettar broke off ties with BJP after the party denied him ticket to contest in the Hubli-Dharward Central constituency. The Congress camp was enthusiastic of his entry and party president Mallkarjun Kharge had said that he would power the party to a huge victory.
However, the BJP had predicted his defeat beforehand. BJP leader BS Yediyurappa said that Shettar had made a mistake. His decision to switch sides came even after the party had given him whole hearted support.
Jagadish Shettar was defeated by a margin of 30,000 votes. His defeat comes at a time when Congress is all set to rule Karnataka. Experts believe that his failure to win the constituency might tarnish his political future.
