Kochi: It is reported that the drug carrying ship, that was seized and brought to Kochi, had begun its journey from Makran port in Iran. Drugs worth Rs.12,000 crore was confiscated by NCB with the help of Navy. This is the biggest drug haul in the country.
A Pakistani citizen is reported to have been arrested. Officials say more people will be arrested in connection with this.
The Pakistani ship that began its journey from the Iranian port was monitored by the Indian Navy when it entered Indian waters. 2800 kg of drugs was seized in the combined operation by Narcotics Control Bureau and Indian Navy. The drug smuggling ship was caught as part of Operation Samudragupta.
The confiscated materials included parcels with symbols of scorpion and bit coin. Officials said that the symbol of scorpion is used by Haji Salim gang. The drugs were hidden in sacks with labeled Al Hussain Basmati rice, which is produced in Pakistan. Investigations are on to find out the source of the drugs and its ownership.
Operation Samudragupta is conducted to prevent smuggling of drugs through sea. It aims to stop the flow of drugs coming to India from countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc.
This is the first time that this much amount of drugs is confiscated at one time in the history of India. The security forces examined the ship after receiving a tip off.
