New Delhi: Karnataka Director General of Police Praveen Sood has been appointed as the new director of CBI for two years. He will be taking charge after the current director; Subodh Kumar Jaiswal completes his tenure on May 25.
The decision to appoint Sood was made by a three member committee consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Lok Sabha Opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. The Appointments Committee of Council (ACC) approved the appointment after receiving the recommendation from the committee.
Praveen Sood is a native of Himachal Pradesh and former student of IIT Delhi. He is a 1986-batch IPS officer and was appointed as the DG & IGP of Karnataka on February 1st, 2020.
Sood played a key role in integrating technology to tackle new age crime, law & order challenges and making police services easily accessible to the common man. His decision of using technology to ease traffic congestion in Bengaluru was a huge contribution to the state.
